Geography

"I wish the world was twice as big - and half of it was still unexplored." "It's surely our responsibility to do everything within our power to create a planet that provides a home not just for us, but for all life on Earth." Sir David Attenborough

Geography is the study of places and the relationships between people and their environments. Geographers explore both the physical properties of Earth's surface and the human societies spread across it. At Dale Hall we strive to be the best versions of ourselves. Therefore, watch as we grow into confident Geographers that understand the world that we, and others live in.

Geography Lead

Have you ever wondered why there are hills? Why oceans cover so much of the planet? Why we speak in different languages and have different characteristics depending on where we are from? Why volcanoes shoot out magma but when it touches the floor it's known as lava (surely they are the same thing)?

The world of geography is vast and unanswered. A subject in which the answer isn't always what you can see. Like an iceberg, so much is hidden under the surface and you will find this out as you move through the curriculum at Dale Hall.

As Geography lead, I want to encourage lessons in which you are left intrigued and inspired. How can it be that Reindeers change their eye colour to help them see better at different parts of the year? Must be why they were chosen to pull the sleigh!

Jump into the world you live in, ask questions, widen your understanding, and enjoy Geography!

Our Vision

At Dale Hall, our core principles for Geography are focused around giving our children a rich and varied set of skills, enabling them to have an in-depth understanding of the wider world and their local area.

In a world where environmental impact is taking high precedent, we are aiming to develop culturally savvy pupils who care and understand their planet. As always with Dale Hall, we intend to embed Geography into a cross-curricular approach. Often taught inline with our Power of Reading texts, our Geography is offered in an investigative and immersive manner always creating an enjoyable learning experience for the children.

At Dale Hall, we aim to:

-         Develop knowledge and appreciation for a broad range geographical and culturally significant areas.

-         Understand the processes associated with key physical and human geographical features of the world

-         Develop competence in the geographical skills needed to collect, analyse and communicate with a range of data gathered through experiences of fieldwork

-         Interpret a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs

-         Communicate geographical information in a variety of ways, including through maps, numerical and quantitative skills and writing at length
